6. Trial, Subscription, And Access
makeo can offer a free trial for paid plans. The current product copy typically mentions a 7-day free trial and the ability to cancel.
If a subscription expires or becomes inactive, some email features can be locked until the customer activates a plan again.
Features that may require an active plan:
- Email inbox access inside makeo.
- AI-generated replies.
- Auto-organization.
- Automatic drafts.
- Connected account workflows.
- Customer channels beyond the basic setup.
If a customer sees a locked screen, it does not necessarily mean something is broken. It may mean the account needs an active plan, trial, or billing update.
6.1 Trial Banner And Referral Rewards
During an active free trial, a Free trial · X days left banner appears at the bottom of the sidebar.
- App trial without card: clicking the banner opens the Dashboard to connect email or choose a subscription.
- Paid trial with card on file: clicking the banner opens Share & earn (referral rewards).
Share & earn: invite others with your personal referral link. When someone signs up with a work email through your link, you can earn 7 extra trial days per successful referral. Copy or share the link from the referral page. Close the page to return to the Dashboard.
Stripe trials with a card on file can automatically become active paid subscriptions after the 7-day trial. makeo keeps subscription state in sync with Stripe and refreshes completed trials when billing status is checked, so paid customers should appear as active subscriptions rather than showing zero trial days left.
If a customer abandons Stripe Checkout before payment completes, their subscription can remain incomplete in Stripe. When they return to the plan page and choose a plan again, makeo starts a fresh Checkout session (the previous open session is expired and any stale incomplete subscription is cancelled first) so billing address and payment fields are editable again. The new checkout reuses the same Stripe customer when one already exists.
When a customer redeems a promo code with custom trial days before checkout, the Dashboard plan-selection flow updates its trial text to show the promo-specific trial length. The plan area also shows a promo-applied banner so customers can see that the displayed discount and trial terms come from their promo code.
User Settings can show a quick link to the latest Stripe receipt or invoice when that URL is available.
